Look no further than B.B. Barns for all your gardening knowledge needs this Summer! Every Saturday, our Garden Talks series features weekly talks at your local garden center given by our staff on helpful topics.

These 30-minute talks are FREE to attend – just make sure you CLICK HERE to sign up! Talks take place from 10-10:30 am. Talk descriptions are given below. Registration for next month’s talks will open the first of each month. Talks will be capped at 15 people per talk, so reserve your spot soon!

Lawn Care Basics: Want a lawn that’s the envy of all your neighbors? Learn the basics of keeping your lawn healthy, weed free, and a lush beautiful green!

Houseplants 101: Budding houseplant parents, this one’s for you! Learn the basics: how to care for your new plant family, from there to put them in your home to watering, repotting, light needs, pest identification, and more. 

Planting 101: The key to successful, thriving plants starts with planting.  Learn the main techniques of planting in your garden, types of amendments and fertilizers needed for success, and what do to to get your new landscape plants thriving. 

Growing Herbs & Veggies: This seminar will equip you with the knowledge and skills to have your own “farm to table” meal, complete with tips and tricks to successfully grow your own food.

Pruning 101: The beautiful plants in your garden all have different schedules and techniques of pruning. You will leave this seminar equipped with the knowledge of the right time to prune, and know how to keep your garden beautifully maintained. 

Roses 101: This informative seminar on growing roses will introduce you to the different types of roses, the correct environmental conditions needed for success, the basics of pest management, and pruning.

Deer Resistant Plants: While destructive deer can be a nuisance in the garden, we will give you tips to deter them and a good idea of the best plants to use.

Container Gardening: Flower pots add beauty and color in a portable pot for the outdoor spaces in your home. Learn the basic of container garden design, and leave with all the inspiration you need through different design elements and wonderful color combinations.

Shade Gardening: Yes, you can have beautiful year-round color in your shade garden! This seminar will explore the amazing world of shade-loving plants. Design tips and suggestions of plants will allow you to create your own woodland wonderland. 

Pollinator Gardens: Developing gardens for birds, bees, and butterflies not only has beauty for your eyes, but is also  an important and sustainable practice for the animals around us. Learn how to plant and maintain one in this seminar.

Garden Coaching: Learn about this exciting service from the B.B. Barns team of garden coaches. From plant identification, maintenance suggestions, and design ideas, this service offers great assistance to anyone wanting to make their gardens and homes beautiful. 

Sun Perennials: Sunny perennial borders are the highlight of a garden. With every changing flower color, sunny perennials add color and texture to your entire garden. Learn the basics of this wide selection of perennial flowers. 

Native Perennials: Mother nature designed native plants to grow in your garden: they’re both beautiful and useful. Learn about these great plants and how to mimic the natural design around us.

Controlling Garden Pests: While pests can be problematic, there are plenty of solutions beyond just spraying pesticides. Learn the basics of Integrated Pest Management from the S.C. Cooperative Extension. 

Planting on Slopes: Sloping areas can seem daunting to plant on, but we have tips and tricks! Learn what you need to be successful on sloping areas. 

Pruning Your Roses: While pruning roses can be a sticky project, we will give you all the knowledge necessary to maintain your roses in a healthy way, but also to keep them flowering throughout the season. 

Hydrangeas: Learn about the different types of hydrangeas, how they grow, and where they grow.  Soils, watering, and pruning will all be covered in this informative seminar. 

Plants for Tough Spots: All of our gardens have wet spots or very dry areas. This seminar will introduce you to a myriad of plants that will thrive in the spots that you were giving up on.
