Astilbes won our hearts, along with ferns, variegated dogwoods, waterfalls, shade garden paths, conifers, Japanese maples, friends and a yummy lunch. On Thursday, June 14, B.B.Barns Garden Center hosted their 2nd annual garden tour. We did it last year to rave reviews, so naturally, we did it again this year. (Our excitement continues. Look for a fall tour, details to come,) We rented an air-conditioned bus, grabbed coolers of water, made lunch reservations at the Highland Lake Inn, then visited a farm, and two gardens.

We started with the Cane Creek Valley Farm, a fourth-generation dairy, and organic vegetable farm. We learned the history of how the organic vegetable farm came to be, and the recent flooding they’ve endured. Next up was two private ornamental gardens with a leisurely lunch in between.

It was a good day spent with like-minded, passionate gardeners. The best kind of day to feed the soul and gain inspiration. Of course, we took pictures. Scroll through below for the highlight reel and check our newsletter for the next garden tour. We’d love for you to join us.

Thank you to our gracious hosts: the Sizemores of Cane Creek Valley Farm and the gardeners who spruced up their gardens for our visit.

Thank you to Barney Bryant, owner of B.B. Barns Garden Center, and Therese Figura, Director of Business Development for putting the event together.

Thank you to Letha Hinman, B.B.Barns annual salesperson, for joining us and sharing your years of garden knowledge and kindness, helping make the tour personal and engaging.

Thank you to Ben Pick for graciously sharing your wealth of horticulture knowledge as a docent. Once a B.B. Barns’ employee, always B.B. Barns’ family.

Thank you Highland Lake Inn for a delicious lunch and gracious dining experience.
