Saturday, August 11, at the Speaking of Gardening symposium held annually in Asheville, North Carolina, the Jerry Ragland Young Landscape Professional Award was presented posthumously to Hunter Stubbs (1969-2017). Many of our B.B.Barns customers knew Hunter with his big smile and big heart, as our landscape designer. He joined B.B.Barns in 2006 as a partner in the landscape division, after a career at Richmond Hill where he was in charge of the seven-acre garden that was featured in Southern Living Magazine.

Hunter received his undergraduate from North Carolina State University, earning a double major in horticulture and business, and a masters in plant propagation. He wrote for Fine Gardening, Southern Living, Carolina Gardener magazines and was the founder of Speaking of Gardening that just celebrated its 20th year.

The Jerry Ragland award honors an outstanding young individual in landscape design. The gardens Hunter designed and installed in the Asheville area are too numerous to count, and his inspiration lives on in each of them. B.B.Barns is happy to congratulate Hunter’s wife, Carla, and the boys (Carson and Hayden) on a job well done by Hunter.

Hunter dedicated his career to creating beauty and joy through gardens. He dedicated his life to being an encouragement to everyone he met. We were blessed to know him. Congratulations to Carla and the boys.
